Crowns and Dental Caps

Crowns or "caps" are a type of dental restoration which preserve the functionality of a damaged tooth.

Crowns may be used to protect a cracked tooth, restore functionality of a tooth with excessive decay, or replace a pre-existing crown.

The crown, generally made of porcelain, gold or a combination of the two (dental ceramic) encases and protects the distressed tooth essentially serving as the tooth's new outer surface.

You may need a crown to cover a tooth and restore it to its normal shape and size.

A crown can:
Make a tooth stronger and improve its appearance
Cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't enough tooth left
Be used to attach a bridge
Protect a weak tooth from breaking
Restore a tooth that's already broken
Cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped.
